ABOUT THE PRODUCTION

In 2010, Friederike Mayröcker's collection of stories "Vom Umhalsen der Sperlingswand" was published. In it, she deals with Robert Schumann's stay in the Endenich sanatorium and the surviving medical records. In a polyphonic monologue, the author combines Schumann's slow twilight and extinction with the death of Ernst Jandl, poet and her long-time companion. In the performance "Dark Roses of the Night", her texts were interwoven with music by composers such as Brahms, Mahler, Schoeck and Schumann. Choral improvisations connected the Romantic era to the present and captured Friederike Mayröcker's associative narrative style in sound.
